I couldn’t put this down yesterday: a fascinating and compelling read for all British children (and adults) regardless of skin colour and heritage – synopsis below. I struggle to understand why our national curriculum (rightly) ensures that the major faiths of British communities are taught, yet doesn’t replicate this inclusive approach when it comes to history. The Black Curriculum, a social enterprise set up in 2019, aims to address this and the book’s publisher – Macmillan Children’s Books – is donating 50p for every copy of the book sold to support the cause ?.
While the book is marketed at children aged 12+, I definitely think that it’s suitable for children aged around 9 onwards.
